weeknoteswork

Not as heavy a week this time, with more orientation and understanding how the programme is puot together. I’ve finally managed to get Visual Studio and Git installed, so I can rummage around the code some at last. Spent a bunch of time talking about data models and how we will handle taxonomies and stuff.

Also, I inherited a somewhat contentious techical architecture decision that needs making and I’ve made a good amount of progress on understanding the different perspectives and considerations that need to go into that decision. I’ve got the basis of a PowerPoint deck and should be able to present something to my other G6 colleagues next week, before taking it to our DD and the CTO.

Some UTAW work this week too, but that seems to have gone really well. Also, because there’s a two-day planning event in London for work that’s immediately after it, I’m actually gonna get to go to London Pride this year, which I didn’t think I would 🤍🩷🩵🤎🖤❤️🧡💛💚💙💜

The main event of the week, of course, is the announcement of a General Election at the start of July. Given that I’m cosplaying a Grade 6 civil servant in the English civil service, that means I’m “politically restricted”, so I’m not allowed to engage in “any participation in national political activities”, so I’m actually gonna have to stfu about politics for a few weeks. That’s gonna be very weird. I doubt there’s a whole week where I’ve not talked about politics in the last 35 years and now I need to manage 6 of them in a row! 😅

For the weekend, I have some Wikimedia LGBT+ bits and pieces to do, but I’m really looking forward to seeing Furiosa tomorrow and really enjoyed the trailer for Wicked now I’ve finally seen it. Also, as Jen is studying for her exam atm, I watched See How They Run last night, a very funny and witty take on murder mysteries, as a man is found dead on the set of The Mousetrap on the night of its 100th performance. Harris Dickinson was great as Dickie Attenborough, but Sam Rockwell and Saoirse Ronan stole the show, of course. It’s on Disney+ and worth a watch if you have it.

Also, I’ve started reading Anthony Oliveira’s Dayspring at last. I don’t know a huge amount about Christian mythology, so I’m needing to look things up a fair amount, but it’s a lovely, interesting queer read.

Here’s hoping everyone has a lovely three-day weekend!
